Owen Baerg named Week 15 Athlete of the Week

In Week 15, 6’1″ middle blocker Owen Baerg of the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers helped his team to a two-win weekend.

First, the Blazers got the monkey off their back by beating the Red River College Rebels for the first time this season. Baerg, a La Salle product who went to high school at Westgate Collegiate, had 10 kills and led all Blazers with 7 blocks.
The following night against the recently surging Assiniboine Community College
Cougars, Baerg put up 8 kills and 6 blocks en route to another win for the green and gold.
CMU head coach Don Dulder is very impressed with his player who is returning to the game after time spent away. “After a one-year hiatus from the team as he pursued studies abroad, Owen has come back to rejoin the team and earn himself a starting middle spot in the lineup.

He is one of our most consistent players game in and game out despite his small size for a middle, which he makes up for in athleticism and great jumping ability”. The Blazers sit in 3rd entering the post season, meaning Baerg hopes to lead the Blazers at least one more time on February 27th at the 2016 MCAC Final Four Volleyball Championships in Otterburne.
