The story of Canadian Mennonite University’s midfielder Marijka Yaschyshyn in the 2015 season is nothing short of feel-good.
After being sidelined for more than a year following knee surgery, Yaschyshyn was back on the field for the first time October and it didn’t take long for her to find her legs.
Yaschyshyn scored the only goal of the game to best the Providence University College Pilots in Week 6 and send the CMU Blazers into this weekend’s MCAC Championship as a #3 seed. Yaschyshyn also scored against Brandon University this season, the #2 seed that CMU will face off against tomorrow at 12:00pm in their semifinal game in Otterburne, Mb.
“It is great to have Marijka back, especially now when we are getting into the playoffs and have a few others sidelined with injuries. She is getting strong and more confident each game and we think her presence can give us a push in our semifinal game this weekend”, says Cara Isaac, CMU’s co-Head Coach.
A second year student at CMU, Yaschyshyn’s play at midfield will hopefully help her team improve their 2015 record against the Bobcats whom they’ve gone 0-2 against this season. Finishing the season with a 4-4 record, the Blazers finished well ahead of Providence and Assiniboine Community College and hope to come up with an upset tomorrow that would find them playing for the Championship come Sunday.
