2015 MCAC Final Fours Preview

It all comes down to this. After a regular season jam-packed with parity, this weekend we will finally crown the 2014-2015 MCAC Basketball Champions.

Hosted by Canadian Mennonite University, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Basketball Final Fours will be taking place this weekend, Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15, and if the regular season was any indication, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will take home this year’s crown.

Despite this season’s noticeable parity, it’s hard to ignore that once again Red River College sits atop the standings in both the men and women’s basketball, with the women’s Rebels looking for a fourth straight title, and the men trying to take home an unprecedented seventh straight championship. Their dominance in the MCAC as of late has been well-documented, however if there was ever a year to see the titles change hands, this may very well be the one.

On the men’s side, the Rebels will have their hands full in a 2014 Finals rematch against Canadian Mennonite University. The Blazers were within a single shot of winning it all last season against Red River, and will have a strong home-crowd backing to make this much more than your typical #1 vs #4 semifinal. In the 2-3 matchup, the Providence Pilots will look to continue one of their most impressive seasons in recent memory against last year’s one-seed in the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen.

For the women, the marquee matchup will kick off the tournament at noon, as bitter rivals CMU and Providence look to settle a season long score which has seen the Blazers jump to a 3-2 lead in the season series. Following them later in the day are the Rebels taking on the College Wesmen, as the defending champs look to move one step closer to a four-peat.

Below is the schedule for the Basketball Final 4’s. Single-day passes are $5.00 and can be purchased upon entry, and member school students with valid student ID get in for free.
