For a team that was eight points out of a playoff spot just one week ago, things have never looked so positive for the Université de Saint-Boniface Men’s Volleyball team. With three wins in Week 20, Saint Boniface is now just two points off fourth place, and a spot in the Final Fours.
One of the reasons for Saint Boniface’s strong play is that their key players are stepping up at a time where the team needs them the most. Jean-Bocard Diallo is one of those players.
Leading the team in hitting percentage and blocks, the fourth-year middle has been a force at the net, and his veteran leadership is one of the big reasons why Saint Boniface is realistically gunning for a spot in the Final Fours.
“JB is a calming veteran presence for his teammates, and is always leading by example,” says head coach Guy Bourgeois. “A great athlete, he has taken over matches this season both offensively and defensively.”
Saint Boniface will certainly be looking for Diallo’s leadership as they enter their most important week of the MCAC season. Their first test is a must-win against Red River on Friday, and then they will take on the fourth-place Providence Pilots in what could end up being the most exciting game of the season.
Diallo is in his fourth year studying sciences at Université de Saint-Boniface.
