The Red River Men’s Basketball team has been on top in the MCAC for a while now. But a team doesn’t become champions four years in a row without cultivating some fresh talent along the way. And three weeks into the season, Red River may have found that talent in Vince Munoz.
Munoz may not have posted huge numbers quite yet, but his vision on the court, and ability to control the play has the potential to make him a star in this league. If anything, it certainly has his coach impressed.
“Vince had a solid weekend for us,” says head coach Sukhvir Singh. “We will be relying heavily on Vince to provide stability and leadership from the point guard position this year, and I feel like he’s going to accept that challenge and have a great year.”
So far so good for Munoz and his Rebels squad, as Red River took out a very strong College Wesmen team this week, who will be on the doorstep all season trying to knock the Rebels off their throne. Munoz was a huge factor in the three-point win, playing over 37 minutes, a team high, and recording six assists to go along with an 11-point night.
Munoz sits atop the league right now in assists, and the Rebels will be looking for that court vision and precision passing to help push their team over the hump in a season that may be their toughest challenge yet.
Munoz is in his first year of study at Red River College in the Business Administration program.
