With a team that goes undefeated all season, it might be easy to find players on your roster who deserve recognition. It’s even easier when they have the work ethic of Providence’s Elena Rempel. If it hadn’t already, that work ethic paid off last weekend, with the fourth-year player finishing the weekend with four goals, two assists, and this week’s Athlete of the Week honour.
Recognized as a leader both on and off the pitch, coach Giancarlo Calla says that her hard work has set the tone for the season the team has had thus far.
“Elena came into this season in the best shape of her life, and it’s definitely paying off,” says Calla. “She can out hustle and defend as well as anyone I have coached over the past few years, and in the last couple of weeks, she’s definitely found her scoring touch.”
Her late-season scoring touch has been a welcoming asset of her game, and has led her to finish third-place in the league in scoring. Providence may be undefeated this year, but it will take a strong effort from veteran leaders like Elena if they want to repeat as MCAC Women’s Soccer Champions.
Elena is in her forth year of studies in Social Sciences, and will be continuing to compete in the MCAC on Providence’s women’s basketball team.
