The airtight race for top seed is over, and now the real battle is set to begin. After a regular season full of parody, it should be a competitive 2012-13 Volleyball Final 4’s – and it all goes down this weekend.
The Final 4’s are to take place at Red River College’s Notre Dame Campus in the North Gym on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23.
“With seedings coming down to the last day of the season, I have no doubt these Final 4’s will not only showcase high levels of student-athlete talent, but provide great entertainment as well,” said Bill Wedlake, MCAC executive director.
On the women’s side, a remarkable four points separate the top three seeds – as the defending champion and #1-seeded Providence University Lady Freemen narrowly escaped hot finishes from the #2-seeded University of Winnipeg College Wesmen and the #3-seeded Red River Rebels. In fact, coming into the tournament, the Rebels have won seven of eight and will hope home cooking can bring them two upset wins and a championship title.
On the men’s side, the continued dominance of the Red River Rebels has them coming in the #1 seed. This year, they’ll look to take care of business against a #2-seeded College Wesmen team that narrowly beat them in five sets in last year’s championship final.
Before each Friday match, the MCAC will hand out its All-Conference Team selection and regular season MVP awards to those athletes participating. The conference will also put on a short opening ceremony before the 6:00 p.m. match on Friday.

Day passes for the tournament are $5. Students at MCAC member schools get in free by showing valid student ID.
