The first five weeks of the 2012 soccer season were quiet ones for fourth-year Lady Freemen team captain Melanie Warkentin.
However, when it came down to the last week of the regular season, winning time for Providence, Warkentin turned it on along with the rest of her team. Scoring two of her team’s 13 Week 6 goals, Warkentin led her team on a momentum swing that led them all the way through an undefeated season – and a Women’s Championship.
Warkentin scored one in a 5-0 win over Red River College on Oct. 13 and another on Oct. 16 in a 3-0 win over CMU.
A midfielder and a graduate of Garden Valley Collegiate, Warkentin also plays basketball for Providence and is working towards a degree in interdisciplinary arts.
