It was the most enlightening preview of the Soccer Championships that the regular season had to offer. It may also have 2012’s best MCAC soccer match.
In an Oct. 10 battle for second place, CMU jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead over Université de Saint-Boniface.
What followed was the biggest comeback of the season, a remarkable four goal Saint-Boniface second half. It was capped by defender Sylvain Legal, who found the back of the net to put his team ahead – securing them a 4-3 win and a temporary home in the second seed of men’s soccer.
Legal, a third-year player with Les Rouges, also plays and coaches basketball in addition to playing soccer. His Saint-Boniface team, now locked into second place, will match up once again with CMU in the Soccer Championships semifinals.
This marquee matchup will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s Men’s Championship, also at 4 p.m.
