Last season, the Red River Rebels women’s soccer team didn’t get a win until the very last day of the soccer season – in the bronze medal match.
This year, they’re hoping for a similar turn of success in the Soccer Championships weekend, and at the centre of that hope is midfielder Katrina Clark.
An improving team record-wise, the Rebels have three draws in 2012, all coming against CMU. In the latest, a 1-1 affair on Oct. 10, Clark scored her team’s lone goal and her second of the season.
It helped them earn a point as they prepare to meet CMU for a fourth time in Saturday’s semifinals game. The two teams have the same record and the same goal totals this season. A winner is assured now, though, as the Rebels will look to earn a spot against undefeated Providence in Sunday’s Women’s Championship.
Clark, a graduate of Birtle Collegiate in Miniota, Manitoba is a first-year player looking to earn a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
Saturday’s women’s semifinal between Red River and CMU takes place at 2 p.m. Get more details on the MCAC Soccer Championships here.
