With their record having been in a steady slide since November, the University of Saint-Boniface Voyageurs men’s volleyball team were out to send a message in their last game of the season.
The #3-ranked Voyageurs took on the #2 Red River Rebels on Feb. 15, a team they had beaten at their peak early in the year. Since then though, they had fallen from the top of the conference all the way to a sub-.500 record in January.
Rallying behind left side Joel Charriere, the team played one of their best matches of the year – knocking off the Rebels in five sets and improving their record to 9-7, just nine days before they will have to play the very same team for a birth in the MCAC Volleyball Championship at Providence.
“Joel has the ability to impact a game in multiple ways. He has displayed that throughout the season but especially in our last few conference matches after returning from injury,” said Voyageurs head coach Guy Bourgeois.
Charriere’s Voyageurs will take on the Red River Rebels and look to upset the five-time champs when it matters most, in the Volleyball Final 4’s at Providence University College. They are set to play their semifinals match at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 24.
