On the road and ten minutes away from certain defeat, the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen almost saw their sure #1 seed slip away from them.
Facing the #2 Red River Rebels in their gym on Feb. 11, the College Wesmen were down by double digits early and faced an uphill battle in the fourth quarter.
Behind their 5’7” point guard Brittany Boudreau though, they stormed back to steal one of the most unlikely games in the conference this year, beating Red River 57-54 to move two games ahead of the Rebels and secure a #1 seed going into the Basketball Final 4’s.
“She’s a silent leader for us,” said College Wesmen head coach Suki Chhoeun, “Her ability to read offensive plays ahead and consistently hit the three and attack makes her a very well rounded player in the FIBA game.”
“She’s a rookie who leads by example, and is working on her verbal communication skills in practice and games.”
With the top seed secured, the College Wesmen will take on #4 Providence University College at the Basketball Final 4’s, a semifinal matchup set for 2 p.m. on Friday, March 2.
