After splitting two Week 10 games against Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) (the win came in a tight one-point overtime game), the women’s basketball team from Providence University College came into Week 11 looking to continue staying competitive. They certainly did just that in their single Week 11 matchup, beating up on Assiniboine Community College with a 67-36 win. In that game, forward Elissa Dykstra scored 14 points, including a team-leading 10 in the second half. Pacing her team to the win, she pushed Providence to 2-2 on the year (they now stand at 2-3).
The Providence Lady Freemen are looking to improve on last year’s 6-10 record, a season where they made it to the Final 4 but lost in the first round to the eventual champion University of Winnipeg College Wesmen.
Dykstra, a first-year basketball player in her third year of studies at Providence, is in the midst of interdisciplinary studies. She attended Immanuel Christian School and was born in Edmonton.
