Over the past few seasons, the men’s basketball rivalry between Red River College and the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen has become more and more heated. In Week 10, that intensity reached all new heights.
Down as many as 17 points in a Thursday night matchup, the Red River Rebels rode the back of 5’10” point guard Kevin Quirante, who led all scorers with 20 points on the night, to a huge comeback to beat the Wesmen 72-71. Last year in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference basketball Final 4, the Rebels men upset the College Wesmen in the final to win their third straight title. With a 1-1 record so far this year, they are hoping to work their way up the conference and make it a four-peat.
Quirante, in his first year with the Rebels, is studying business information technology and attended high school at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. He grew up in the Philippines.
