Starting the season with two blowout losses can take the wind out of any team’s sails. That’s how the women’s basketball team from Canadian Mennonite University started the 2011/12 season. That story changed in Week 9 though, mostly thanks to the play of second-year guard Carrera Lamoureux. In a Friday night matchup in Brandon taking on Assiniboine Community College, CMU won convincingly – 95-35. Lamoureux led all scorers in the game with 25 points. The following night, CMU won again, and now sit at 2-2 on the year to tie for the top spot in the conference.
The women Blazers finished with a 7-9 record last season on their way to a narrow 46-44 loss to Red River College in the first round of the MCAC Basketball Final 4.
Lamoureux is in her second year of study at CMU and attended high school at The King’s School.
