It was the perfect moment for arguably the most exciting soccer game of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference season, the men’s final.
The upstart #3-seeded Red River College Rebels and the undefeated #1-seeded University of Winnipeg Wesmen entered penalty time tied at one. With all the pressure on the Wesmen, who were yet to lose a game and without the services of MCAC Most Valuable Player Adam Bromley, who had been red carded earlier, it was Yiannis Tsalatsidis who came through in the clutch – scoring the go-ahead goal on a breakaway and securing his team a championship title.
The 5’8” Tsalatsidis, who plays all positions for his Wesmen team, is in his second year with the soccer program. He plans on majoring in business administration and attended high school at River East Collegiate.
