MEDIA ALERT
For Immediate Release
March 11, 2011
Winnipeg, MB – Due to inclement weather and unsafe road conditions expected to hit southern Manitoba over the next 24 hours, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference and host Providence College have decided to postpone all games and events originally scheduled for Friday, March 11. The Final 4 tournament will resume with four semifinal games on Saturday, March 12, and the two championship games on Sunday, March 13.
Providence College hosts the 2011 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Final 4 Basketball Championships on Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13 in Otterburne, Manitoba.
The #2 seeded men’s team, the Red River College Rebels will be chasing their third consecutive conference title against perennial rivals, the #3 ranked Canadian Mennonite University Blazers, as well as MCAC newcomers; the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen who are ranked #1, and the Oak Hills Christian College Wolf Pack from Bemidji, Minnesota who are ranked #4.
The host Providence College Freemen women will take their #4 ranking into the tournament and try to turn some heads against the #1 ranked University of Winnipeg College Wesmen and #3 ranked Canadian Mennonite University Blazers. The #2 ranked Red River College Rebels will come into the weekend the heavy favourites after knocking off the previously undefeated Wesmen twice, both by large margins, in early February.
Providence will also be hosting the 2010-2011 basketball awards luncheon on Saturday morning where the MCAC will name their men’s and women’s all-conference team and regular season MVP selections. Men’s and Women’s Final 4 tournament MVPs will be awarded Sunday evening following their respected championship games.
Final 4 game results and award recipients will be available up-to-the-minute at http://bit.ly/BBallFinal4s and https://twitter.com/MCACathletics.
