Yohannes Asrat Named Week 1 Athlete of the Week

The 2010 men’s soccer season got under way on Saturday, September 18, when the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface Voyageurs traveled to Otterburne, MB to take on the defending MCAC champion Providence Freemen.

Providence team captain Yohannes Asrat is in his fourth season with the Freemen, and turned in one of his best performances on Saturday by assisting two of the three goals scored against CUSB.

The 24-year-old Vincent Massey (Brandon) product received high praise from his head coach after their thrilling 2-1 defeat at the hands of the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen on Sunday.

“(Yohannes) turned in another strong performance in midfield on Sunday against the University of Winnipeg,” said Martin Ward.

“He leads by example by putting maximum effort into every game and every practice.”

Asrat likely produces an aura of intimidation towards those he faces on the pitch, as the 5’6” midfielder also coaches Kung-Fu.
