If their was a name more fitting for an outside hitter in volleyball, the MCAC would like to know about it.
Dylan Power is a first year left-side for Red River College’s men’s volleyball team. The 5’11” Glenlawn Collegiate grad was named the MCAC men’s volleyball Final 4 MVP for his play over the championship weekend at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba.
The Rebel men completed a second consecutive perfect season in 2010, capturing a third conference title in a row, albeit with only two returning players for 2009-2010. This has shown how effective Rebels head coach Dan Gilbert has been in bringing in new talent every year.
A top recruit of Gilbert, Power was a huge player for the ‘Bison 18U’ team that placed second in nationals in 2009, and that Gilbert coached.
“We did have two key (players return) this year,” said Gilbert. “I knew we would rely heavily on Erik (Hansen) and Jeff (Draper) for on court leadership as well as what they can bring offensively. But we did have some good players come in for us like Dylan Power, Jacoby Dueck, and Jesse Folkerts, who came in and really helped to stabilize our team.”
Both Folkerts and Dueck were selected to the MCAC all-conference team.
Gilbert and the Rebels are looking forward to repeating as conference champions in 2010-2011, and Power will be one of the returning stars to the powerhouse Red River lineup.
