A huge contributing factor to Canadian Mennonite University’s perfect season in women’s volleyball, and third consecutive conference title has been the elite level coaching by third year head coach Andrea Charbonneau. Another contributing factor, and possibly even more so, is left-side hitter Evelyn Kampen. Before her first season in 2010 with the Blazers, the River East Collegiate product played two seasons for Trinity Western in the CIS’ Canada West Division.
Kampen was named the MCAC women’s volleyball regular season MVP for 2010, and topped her team’s 12-0 season and MCAC championship with a Final 4 MVP award for her play over the championship weekend at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba.
“It feels so good,” said Kampen after receiving her second MVP nod. “It’s really flattering, and just being a part of the team I’m on. They are all really supportive and I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Kampen expects to return to the CMU lineup for 2010-2011, as Charbonneau and the Blazers will attempt to capture an unprecedented forth consecutive conference crown.
