Assiniboine Community College’s Adam Kerkowich has been named the MCAC male Athlete of the Week. The 22 year-old Agri-Business student scored two goals and added two assists in the Cougar’s 5-5 tie with Canadian Mennonite University on Sunday night. Kerkowich, who hails from Neepawa, Manitoba has now amassed four goals and seven assists this season in his six MCAC league games.
“He’s a very hard working individual,” said head coach Larry Shannon of the first year player. “He’s there for every practice. Anything you ask of him, he’ll do it. Adam is very easy to coach, and an enjoyable player to coach as well.”
Kerkowich’s 11 points this year has helped his team to a league leading 3-0-3 record. The Cougars’ next MCAC game will be a rematch against the winless CMU Blazers (0-3-2) on Friday, February 27 at 8:30 p.m. at the Brandon Sportsplex.
The Cougars will also travel to the University of Wisconsin-Superior to face the Yellowjackets for two exhibition games on February 14 and 15. The Cougars may be in for a challenge against the Yellowjackets who currently sit in first place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a record of 7-1-1. Their overall record in the eight-team Northern Collegiate Hockey Association is an even more impressive 16-2-2.
