Kevin Brown of Red River College’s men’s volleyball team has been named the MCAC male athlete of the week. Brown, a 5’10” setter for the 7-0 Rebels was recently awarded tournament MVP at the “Big Kahuna Volleyball Classic” hosted by Niagara College in Welland, Ontario. While battling a persistent back injury, Brown and the Rebels breezed through the playoffs without losing a set before taking the best-of-five championship match in three straight sets over the Fanshawe College Falcons.
“Kevin was outstanding for us throughout the tournament, especially since he was playing through much back pain,” stated Rebels head coach Dan Gilbert. “His persistence to not let the injury throw him off his game while leading our team in digs throughout the weekend is likely why he received the (MVP) recognition.”
Brown and the MCAC leading Rebels will attempt to continue their undefeated season on Monday, January 19 when they will travel to face 7-2 St. Boniface College at 8 p.m.
