While en route to their game against the CMU Blazers in Oak Bluff on January 10, the ACC Courgars men’s hockey team found themselves in a ditch on the Trans-Canada Highway between MacGregor and Portage la Prairie.
As the team’s chartered bus crept through the freezing and snowy conditions on Saturday night, a transport trailer at high speed passed them on the Trans-Canada Highway causing the driver to lose sight of the road.
“It (was) a white out condition,” stated ACC athletic director Larry Shannon in an email. Shannon traveled with the team that night.
“All are OK. I called Jason the CMU men’s coach, and he kept in touch. (We) finally called the game off at the last minute as we were still in the ditch at 9:30 p.m.”
The game has yet to be rescheduled. ACC and CMU will meet again on Friday, February 27, but this time it will be the Blazers who will travel the Trans-Canada to Brandon for a tilt at the Sportsplex at 8:10 p.m. All hope for better weather.
