On Tuesday December 2, 2008, the Providence College men’s soccer team was named the CTV Sport Manitoba Sportstars of the Week.
The Providence College men’s soccer team rattled off an amazing 18 straight wins and no losses while at the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) soccer championships at Austin-Tindall Regional Park in Kissimmee, Florida, earning the team a birth in the final.
Ranked #3 coming into the championship tournament, “the giant killers” as they became known held all of their opponents scoreless throughout the tournament. After beating #2 Southeastern University (Florida) in a penalty kick shootout (0-0 OT, 4-2 PKs), they advanced to the final.
The Freemen lost 3-0 in the final to perennial powerhouse Manhattan Christian College from Manhattan, Kansas.
